Review: Drunk Elephant F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial – The Ultimate Combination Skin Saver

About The Product

A moisturizing face mask with components that restore the skin’s lipid barrier. There’s no rocket science here (and honestly, there’s none in any cosmetics), but the formula is stellar, like in the best Hollywood blockbuster. It contains niacinamide, fatty acids, squalane, 5 ceramides, and the antioxidant quercetin. Well formulated. The set of actives and the effect of the product are exactly what you would expect from a moisturizing mask. It hydrates and helps retain moisture in the skin, repairs the lipid barrier, and slightly evens out the skin tone. The cream-gel texture is easy to apply and absorbs well, not sticky, not heavy, and doesn’t give a blanket effect on the face. For those who are worried: it does not contain silicones or parabens. No fragrance.

Who it’s for

Combination, dehydrated skin. Despite what the manufacturer says about “for all skin types.” Strangely enough, dry skin might not feel sufficiently moisturized on the surface (you’ll struggle to apply foundation – your skin will absorb it all). Oily skin might find it a bit heavy.

Ingredients

Squalane, a complex of ceramides (AP, NP, EOP, NS, EOS), niacinamide, and vitamin F (these are softening and soothing fatty acids – linolenic and linoleic). Coconut water, sodium PCA, and magnesium PCA retain moisture in the skin (here referred to as electrolytes). Panthenol heals micro-damage (picked pimples, cracks, peeling). Quercetin is a great antioxidant, minimizing the oxidative impact of free radicals on the molecule of glutathione, the main antioxidant in our body.

The product’s concept is very unusual – vitamin F is encapsulated in soft capsules that burst upon application.

How to use

As the last step in your skincare routine, after all cleansers, creams, and serums; better at night. If you have combination skin, you can apply it every day – you won’t ruin anything.

I used it after a moisturizer right before I went to bed and used it as an overnight mask. It went on pretty thick and sticky but most of it absorbed and it was only slightly sticky when I went to bed (could be because of the moisturizer pairing with it?) but it was fine. I rinsed it off the next morning and my face was amazingly soft, not oily or sticky. I have a combination skin type so I’m always scared about being oily or too dry, but this product was perfect.
