The compositions of Glow Tonic from Pixi and Glycolic Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner from The Ordinary are similar but not identical (though I do consider The Ordinary the closest dupe for Pixi).
What’s the difference?
The Ordinary has slightly more acids and a lower pH – 7% glycolic acid with a pH of 3.5-3.7 compared to 5% with a pH of 4.1 in Pixi. It might seem more aggressive. However, Pixi contains more extracts, as well as dyes and fragrance – for sensitive skin it feels harsher.
Pixi’s Glow Tonic is recommended for use twice daily, while The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner is best used once daily in the evening.
That said, there’s a lot in common
Both brands use the same preservatives, the same antioxidant Panax Ginseng Root Extract, and the same complex of amino acids and moisturizing ingredients – Fructose, Glucose, Sucrose, Urea, Dextrin, Alanine, Glutamic Acid, Aspartic Acid, Hexyl Nicotinate (though The Ordinary contains more of these).
Price
Pixi’s tonic costs $23.18 (Amazon), while The Ordinary’s costs $7.45 (official site).
Final Thoughts
Considering the significant price difference and the potential for irritation, The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner is a budget-friendly and effective option that provides strong exfoliation. However, if you’re drawn to the botanical extracts and are willing to pay more, Pixi Glow Tonic is a valuable addition to your skincare routine.
