Niacinamide is one of the most multifunctional and frequently used ingredients in skincare products (here I explained why it has become so popular). Let’s talk about what happens when it’s combined with retinol, vitamin C, or ceramides:
Niacinamide + Retinol
A logical and most common combination found in mid-range products. Those with oily skin will quickly notice the sebum-regulating effect and reduced inflammatory activity. However, if your skin tends to be dry, it might cause some flakiness.
Niacinamide + Vitamin C
A basic combination that once scared many beauty enthusiasts – all because of an old study from the 60s. The authors were concerned about the possible conversion of niacinamide to niacin. In reality, this combination provides a noticeable brightening effect and works well on traces of deep inflammation.
Niacinamide + Zinc
One of the most popular combinations, thanks to The Ordinary. This duo has anti-inflammatory properties and helps normalize sebum production.
Niacinamide + Ceramides
This combination helps restore the lipid barrier and prevents moisture loss. Typically, such formulas contain a small amount of niacinamide – one to two percent. You can often find the niacinamide and ceramide combination in lipid-replenishing creams.
