My Simple Daily Hair Protection

We take care of our hair during washing and styling, but often forget about protecting it at all other times.

Only after realizing that hair needs constant care was I able to improve its quality.

Essential Headwear Protection

Always wear hats and hoods in winter frost and summer heat. A crucial detail: protect the hair along its length by tucking it under clothing. Rapid temperature changes negatively impact hair proteins. Women often let strands hang out of their hats in winter and then complain: “I can’t seem to even out my hair length; the front strands don’t grow.” The hair does grow but breaks off. Additionally, hair becomes more brittle and damaged by UV rays. If it’s bright and hot, tuck your hair under a hat!

Avoiding Hair Breakage on the Crown

At a certain hair length, I noticed breakage on the crown. Initially, I blamed my pillowcase and improper washing. However, it turned out to be simpler. Several women in our community mentioned that their hair broke due to coil hair ties. Later, I saw a TikTok video by a hair stylist explaining that he could always tell who used coil ties because they had broken hair at the back. I stopped using them (both original Invisibobbles and knock-offs) and switched to silk hair ties or plastic hair claws. My dry and porous hair responded positively to the change, but this may not apply to everyone.

Avoiding Damage from Bag Straps

Bag and backpack straps can cumulatively damage hair. Ensure that they do not press or rub against your hair. A hair stylist noticed that a friend’s hair was more damaged on the left side, which turned out to be from her shoulder bag strap.

Sleeping Arrangements Matter

It is important what or on what you sleep. Good options are silk pillowcases which don’t build up static and cause less friction. Another option is a sleeping cap or bonnet, which actually has advantages over a pillowcase. When hair is tucked under a cap, it doesn’t rub against the ears or cheeks, reducing clogged pores and breakouts, especially important for those with oily or problematic skin. Sleeping in a cap is also great after cosmetic procedures. Hair maintains root volume overnight, curls don’t frizz as much, and styling lasts longer.

Implementing these simple rules ensures comprehensive hair care and protection.
