The biggest annual music festival in Texas and one of the largest in America, Austin City Limits, is well-known for its food and wine experience, intimate late night shows at local venues, and impressive headliners (last year featured Kendrick Lamar, Mumford and Sons, and Radiohead). This year is no exception. Spread out over two weekends, the festival will feature re-positioned stages and an extra entrance gate to facilitate crowd control, an upgraded Platinum experience, the ACL Food Court, and, of course, more than 140 stellar bands and artists.
While the experience of last year’s fest was fantastic overall, the line to enter was a little packed, and the large crowd for the Chainsmokers conflicted with the even larger crowd for Kendrick Lamar. While this is a facet of every large music festival, the designers of this year’s affair have done their best to create the easiest possible concerning the crowd situation. The addition of an extra entrance on Barton Springs Road will make the line move much more quickly, allowing everyone to enter the festival as soon as possible. The stages have been repositioned to allow more room for each crowd, ensuring that two large crowds won’t have any trouble coexisting.
The festival has also added its Platinum experience. It's a ticket that will now earn you such perks as Platinum-only viewing areas at the front of the stage (complete with beer and wine), air-conditioned lounge areas outfitted with amenities, access to private bars and celebrity chef-cooked meals, a Platinum concierge to help you book transport or a massage, golf-cart transport between stages, and a gift package of ACL merchandise and memorabilia. With this ticket, you’ll never lack something new to experience.
ACL prides itself on its exceptional food. Their website boasts, “far from turkey legs and funnel cakes.” As beloved as those foods are, ACL’s vendors list never disappoints. Although 2017’s list has not yet been released, previous vendors include such Austin favorites as Torchy’s Tacos, Amy’s Ice Cream, and P. Terry’s Burger Stand, along with foods from around the world like Lambas Indian Kitchen and Tamale Addiction. Make sure to pay the ACL Food Court a visit during your experience.
ACL’s lineup never disappoints, and this year is no different. Headliners include Jay-Z, Chance the Rapper, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Killers. Other highly anticipated artists such as Solange, Portugal. The Man, Foster the People, and Vance Joy are sure to impress. Even Grace VanderWaal, who won the 2016 season of America’s Got Talent when she was twelve years old, will be making an appearance. This lineup leaves nothing to be desired, providing something for everyone. Even the kids will have a great time at ACL’s Austin Kiddie Limits.
The new upgrades and the classic features of this year’s Austin City Limits promise to make an unforgettable experience. Don’t miss out - one-day tickets and three-day tickets to Weekend 2 are still available.
